Celebrations as Bath’s ‘Two Tunnels’ open to the public

bath tv two tunnels 2 Bath On TV’s guest presenter Sophie Kilbey joined thousands of people who went along to the grand opening of The Two Tunnels route on Saturday April 6th. The opening day festivities were organised by Sustrans and the Two Tunnels Group which has campaigned for this project and helped make it happen. All proceeds from the day – as well as any money raised by Sustrans’ festival activities – will help with future maintenance of the Two Tunnels Greenway.

The Two Tunnels route runs four miles/5 Km of new shared-use path connecting the City of Bath and the countryside to the south. It borrows heavily on Victorian engineering and enterprise to make a dramatic exit from one of the UK’s best small cities.

The line tunneled beneath the high ground to the south of the city on its way to the south coast resort of Bournemouth. In its heyday, it carried freight, local passenger trains and especially on Saturdays, long distance expresses from many northern cities to Bournemouth and other south coast destinations.
